Meals on Wheels of Bonita Springs

For over 40 years, Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Bonita Springs, Florida, Inc. has served prepared meals to homebound people in Bonita Springs. We are a non-profit organization operated by local volunteers. Last year we delivered over 9000 meals to anyone who needed a meal.

Our mission is to deliver prepared hot meals to homebound clients in a way that provides for a caring relationship between driver and client. Meals on Wheels drivers are volunteers who gather each weekday morning at the First Presbyterian Church on Bonita Beach Road in Bonita Springs. They are greeted by one of our volunteer coordinators who provide each driver with a route sheet.

For each client, drivers deliver a hot meal, milk or fruit drink, a bread roll and a cookie dessert. Most often clients greet the drivers at their doorstep and engage in a few minutes of conversation. Drivers deliver meals five days a week and for clients who wish seven days of meals, an extra meal is delivered on both Thursdays and Fridays.

We deliver to clients from Coconut Point Road South to Bonita Beach Road and from the Gulf of Mexico West to Bonita Grand Road. If you want to become a driver, Click Here.

Our coordinators interview new clients to discuss their ability to pay for their meals.  While we prefer full or partial payment, we do provide meals free of charge for those clients unable to pay. Click Here for a New Client Form.

If you, a loved one, or a friend:

  • Has just returned home from the hospital and are not eating a well-balanced meal, or
  • Have parents who are not eating as well as they should, or
  • Is getting older and are too tired to cook

As a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization, Meals on Wheels of Bonita Springs greatly depends on the generosity of the Bonita Springs community and to the friends of Meals on Wheels to cover uncompensated expenses for the meals we serve to clients who cannot afford to pay for their weekly meals. In fact, over 50% of our meals are provided at no cost to our clients. The funds raised by Meals on Wheels allows us to continue to provide a wholesome daily meal to those homebound neighbors in Bonita Springs.

There are a number of approaches to support Meals on Wheels of Bonita Springs. Our donors continually tell us that making a meal available to a homebound neighbor is truly the most rewarding benefit of giving.

Less than 50% of our clients make a contribution towards their meals. Here is how you can help:

  • Give in honor or in memory of a loved one.
  • Consider planned giving and leave a legacy; include Meals on Wheels of Bonita Springs in your estate planning.
  • Or, simply make a donation. No matter how small, it will help.
  • Donate your time as a volunteer driver

Senior hunger is, unfortunately, a growing trend in America. A May 2011 USA Today article reported that senior hunger affects one in nine seniors who are at risk of hunger due to poverty and limited mobility, among some of the factors. It is likely that there are many seniors in Bonita Springs who are facing similar conditions.

If you know of an empty plate among the Bonita Springs Senior community, please help us fill it by contacting Meals on Wheels at 239-598-1300.
